IIT Kanpur and Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) Ink Five-Year MoU for Skill Development

In a landmark move for skill development in India, IIT Kanpur and the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) have officially signed a five-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) under the guidance of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. This collaboration sees IIT Kanpur taking on the role of mentorship for various facets of skill development at IIS.

The MoU outlines IIT Kanpur’s pivotal role in guiding the establishment of laboratory infrastructure at IIS Kanpur. This encompasses the development of a course curriculum based on the laboratory system and the offering of joint certificate and diploma courses approved by both institutes. Additionally, the collaboration includes the establishment of the Center for Deep-Skill Training and Research (CDSTAR) at IIT Kanpur, complementing the training provided at IIS Kanpur.

To enhance experiential learning and facilitate a synergy of skills and knowledge, CDSTAR at IIT Kanpur will host a minimum of six deep-skill laboratories. These specialized labs cover areas such as Noise and Vibration (NVH), Advanced Control Systems (ACSL), Advanced Robotics (ARL), Semiconductor Packaging (SPL), Medical Imaging (MIL), and Drug and Pharma (DPL).

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan underscored the historical significance of this collaboration, where educational institutions, skilling organizations, and industry players like HAL India and Dassault Aircraft Services India unite to empower India’s youth. This initiative is aimed at certifying and future-proofing the skills of the Indian youth, marking a pivotal chapter in the landscape of skill development.
