Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has attained a prominent position as the second-best university in India, a distinction awarded by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) under the Government of India.
In a notable development, the JNU administration has initiated a recruitment campaign, marking its first endeavor of this kind in nearly eight years. On October 20, 2023, the university achieved a significant milestone by appointing 38 permanent staff members. Additionally, it was announced that the university plans to appoint approximately 300 non-teaching staff members by December 2023, representing the largest number of recruitments to date.
This announcement was conveyed through the university’s social media platform, X, formerly known as Twitter. The university’s post emphasized, “After an approximately 8-year interval, the JNU administration has launched a recruitment drive and successfully appointed 38 permanent staff members on October 20, 2023. Furthermore, plans are underway to appoint around 300 non-teaching staff members, marking the highest number of appointments to date by December 2023.”
JNU has faced challenges stemming from understaffing over the years, leading to operational difficulties and increased workloads for existing personnel.

The JNU campus serves as a magnet for students from across the nation and beyond. With a student population exceeding 9,000, over 50 percent are enrolled in MPhil/PhD programs, while 25 percent pursue Master’s programs and 15 percent focus on Bachelor’s programs. The remaining students participate in a range of diploma and certification courses, including foreign languages, yoga, Vedic culture, Sanskrit, and computational linguistics. In addition to these offerings, JNU presents integrated dual-degree programs in BTech+MTech/MS in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, along with a recently introduced Master of Business Administration (MBA) program.
